Founder & Director of Scientific Initiatives

Daryl L. Thompson

Inventor, entrepreneur, and biohacker — the scientific force behind the BioForge portfolio and founder of GRDG Sciences.

Overview

A career at the intersection of disciplines

Daryl L. Thompson is an American inventor, entrepreneur, and biohacker whose career spans advanced pharmaceutical research, materials science, biodefense, and consumer technology innovation. He is the Founder and President of Global Research and Discovery Group (GRDG Sciences, LLC), a private research and development organization headquartered in Winter Haven, Florida, that has operated since 2010 as an independent scientific think tank focused on solving emerging global health and materials challenges.

Thompson is the author or co-author of multiple published scientific studies and holds several granted U.S. patents, with additional applications pending across a broad range of disciplines including antiviral therapeutics, metabolic disease, neuroprotection, antimicrobial formulation, insect repellency, and advanced materials science. His work is frequently cited in academic and scientific contexts, and his technologies have been licensed to publicly traded companies and deployed through humanitarian and commercial programs.

Research Philosophy

Biomimicry as a method

GRDG's research approach is grounded in biomimicry — the systematic study of biological systems as the basis for engineering solutions. Thompson has spent decades studying the ecosystems of the Florida Everglades, drawing from natural thermal management, biological signaling, material structures, and energy strategies to inspire laboratory discovery.

This philosophy has consistently produced technologies that are not incremental product improvements, but entirely new categories of solution.

“Almost all of our discoveries at GRDG have, in some way, evolved from observing these systems. From biomimicry in materials to energy solutions, the Everglades quietly shows what's possible if you take the time to really look and listen.” — Daryl L. Thompson
